Dog Crates and Kennels

Today dog crates and kennels are made with a variety of different materials and are now even more "user friendly". User friendly for both dog and owner of course.

Could it be that you intend to crate train your new puppy and use it as an aide to assist you when house training? Maybe you like to travel, and now you're thinking of taking your four-legged wonder along to visit the newest doggy hotel, and wonder which dog crate would be best to suit your needs, and be the safest for your furry friend.

A trip to the vets, friends house, dog park, one for the bedroom upstairs, it doesn't matter, crates and kennels come in all sizes, shapes, styles and colors.

Plastic Crates

These are the most common and are made of solid plastic. It can be broken down into three pieces, top, bottom, and removable gate, making it easier to clean.

This type of crate as compared to others, is one of the safest, and is recommended for vehicle and air travel. When purchasing one to take on an airline, make sure that it is airline approved, before dishing out any money.

Wire Crates

Some dogs love this type of crate because for one, it is a cooler alternative during the summer months than the solid plastic variety, and second, it does not hinder their sight. Some dogs and puppies like being able to see what is going on about them and a wire crate will achieve this. These crates come with a variety of pads and covers for safety and comfort.

Depending on the size of the crate, these can be folded for easy storage and transportation.

Soft Crates

These are light weight and can be folded to take anywhere. Great for that weekend

visit away from home where your dog can feel secure. Soft crates are not recommended for puppies or dogs that are not potty trained. Always keep dog safety in mind, this type of crate should not be used while traveling in a car.

Dog Tents

For the adventurous ones at heart. How cool is this! Talk about a pup tent! When we went camping, there was no such thing as a dog tent. Our dog usually slept in the tent that we were in, or outside.

So excuse me, I guess this would be useful, say for a day at the beach, or if you like hiking with your dog, then this would be a great thing to bring along. A take along crate, easy to store, light weight, provides shelter, and a sense of security. Like the soft crate, these are not recommended for puppies or dogs that are not potty trained.

No matter what type of dog crate or kennel you have in mind, always remember your dog's safety first. Read all manufacture's warning labels and choose the appropriate crate according to size and use.
