Training a Puppy or a Dog?
What are the Two Things that are Hard to Come By?

Planning on getting your first puppy or dog?

Do you have what it takes to become a responsible dog owner?

You will need a few things for sure, but seriously, here, are the two most important things that you must have.

The first thing is time.

With our busy lives, who has time to do anything anymore? When do we ever stop to smell the roses. Rush, rush, rush.

Experts are saying that owning a dog today, helps relieve stress, is good for your heart, and simply does wonders for our well being. Well then, I think everyone should get a dog, then, maybe, we could take her out for a walk, and actually stop, by the rose bush.

You will need to spend some time on research. Find out about the background, or the breed of the dog, that you plan to get and match that to your lifestyle. Keep in mind that every dog has its own characteristic, two dogs of the same breed may behave differently. I call that, their "dogonality."

More time will also be needed, as you will see on Puppy's 1st Day. From here, to about an average of 4-5 months, it will be 24/7 with house training or potty training. Then there's obedience training, introducing early socialization, and playtime (exercising).

So busy! So much fun. You, and your family need to form a bond with your puppy, and these times, are the best times to do it. Potty training may seem like a long time, but once she gets the idea, you're in for a lifetime of fun and enjoyment.

Now, the second thing. Money. When considering dog ownership, especially if starting out with a new puppy, plan on spending. Be Puppy Prepared, as you will see, requires a little spending even before you bring her home.

The first thing that I must mention, is to make an appointment with your veterinarian. It is a good idea to get her checked soon after bringing her home. You need to think about the costs of keeping her healthy. With the high costs of veterinary care today, please take this into consideration when thinking of dog ownership.

Veterinary costs vary by area, ask your vet for exact amounts. You will or may spend money on such things as:
